A teen is currently being hailed as a hero for saving a woman and her 3 children from a burning vehicle.

The incident happened in Connecticut, USA.

According to reports, a vehicle became engulfed in flames and a teenager leaped into action to save the lives of a mother and her 3 children.

On September 9, 2020, Justin Gavin was out walking to their local Walgreens when a small SUV caught on fire.

The Waterbury Police Department had been receiving multiple calls about the incident and said that a mother was trapped inside.

Gavin, who is 18, saw the flaming vehicle drive past him with a young girl in the car window.

However, the vehicle was not stopping and no matter how hard everyone around it tried, they failed.

Drivers around the area were honking and telling the woman that her vehicle was on fire.

But due to some reasons, the driver of the car could not stop the vehicle.

Instead of just looking at the incident, Gavin chased down the vehicle and did everything he can to remove everyone inside the car.

Recalling the incident and explaining why he helped the woman, Gavin said:

I just felt like if I was in that situation, I would want somebody to help me out, I guess my instincts took over.

Gavin managed to catch up with the car, stopped it, and opened the door to help out the mother and the children that were inside.

Gavin added:

It kind of got scary because I didn’t know whether I was going to be able to get everyone out in time. Luckily I did.’ Moving quickly, he managed to pull the three children – aged one, four and nine, with the youngest in a car seat – to safety.

The Waterbury Police Department’s , Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo acknowledged Gavin’s bravery.

Chief Spagnolo also gave him a challenge coin, which is for the bravery that he showed and for being a good member of the community.

Spagnolo added:

I hope that when you have that coin it just reminds you of this day and you can reflect back on all the good that came out of this for you and that family that you saved. Any time you can always look at that coin and reflect back on this great moment in your life.
