Biju Punoj, a nurse at the AIIMS Jodpur Hospital, committed suicide by setting herself on fire inside a room at the hospital.

Additional Police Commissioner Chain Singh Mahecha confirmed that the woman has passed away.

Commissioner Chain Singh said, “At around 8:30 pm police got information that a woman has tried to set herself on fire at the AIIMS hospital. The police verified the claims by visiting the spot and found the body of the female on the third floor of the building in a room near the operation theatre.”

The Commissioner added, “She was identified as Biju Punoj, hailing from Kerala and was employed in the hospital since the past two years.”

A civilian informed the employees of the hospital that smoke was coming out of a room that is located at the third floor of the hospital. The employees alerted the fire department of the hospital to check the said room.

Officials said that the nurse locked herself inside the room before setting herself on fire.

The body of Biju Punoj was recovered by the employees of the hospital, the authorities of the hospital then informed the local police about the incident.

A close friend of the nurse said that Biju had depression and was really upset over their family problems.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman brought the flammable material inside the hospital through a plastic bottle.

The police have formed a team that will investigate the case.
