PM Justin Trudeau says Canada will ban Single-Use plastics in 2021

Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, said that the country will ban all single-use plastics by 2021.

The prime minister said it is a “global challenge” for everyone to remove bottles, straws, and single-use plastics.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “I am very pleased to announce that as early as 2021 Canada will ban harmful, single-use plastics from coast to coast.”

The PM added that Canada has a unique chance to lead the fight against plastic pollution.

Trudeau said that less than 10 percent of single-use plastics are currently being recycled in Canada.

He added, “You’ve all heard the stories and seen the photos. And to be honest as a dad it is tough trying to explain to my kids. How do you explain dead whales washing up on beaches across the world, their stomachs jam-packed with plastic bags? How do I tell them that against all odds, you will find plastic at the very deepest point of the Pacific Ocean.”

Every year, more than 1 million birds and more than 100,000 marine animals die because of digesting or getting tangled with plastic.

Plastic Bags, cutlery, single-use plates, stir sticks, and straws are amongst the items that are going to be disallowed in the country from 2021.
