A thief managed to shoot himself in his leg with a gun that was hidden in his trousers in a failed bus robbery that was caught on cam.

The man was caught on the CCTV camera that was installed on the bus as he fumbled with what appeared to be an assault rifle tucked in the front leg of his jeans.

Seconds later, the weapon fires off and goes flying towards the ceiling of the bus.

The thief sits in shock after the weapon fire and passengers of the bus can be seen shocked as well.

Reports suggest the incident happened in Tlajomulco de Zuniga in Jalisco, western Mexico.

According to the date and time set on the CCTV, the incident happened on the afternoon of December 27, 2019.

The footage was shared on social media and it went viral right away.

I mean, if you shoot yourself on your leg, you will be.

Witnesses told the local media that the men got off the bus together at the next stop with the injured man limping his way out.

Authorities are trying to identify the man in the video.

The current health state of the man is still unknown.

The police believe the man in the video and his companions intended to rob passengers on the bus.
