A builder in China escaped death after a reinforcement steel rod went through his bum and traveled up through his body, narrowly missing his heart.

The 22-year-old construction worker, whose identity was not shared with the public, is from Huzhou, a city in Zhejiang, China.

The incident happened when he fell off a platform that was approximately 13ft high and landed right on the reinforcing bar.

The 22-year-old man was seriously injured in the incident.

According to reports, the metal rod hit some of his major organs when it pierced through his skin and went all the way up to his chest.

The construction worker fell unconscious right away after he sustained the injuries.

He was reportedly rushed to the Second Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine (SAHZU) for emergency treatment.

Dr. Chen Congcong, a doctor at the SAHZU Hospital, the metal rod was sitting 3 centimeters away from his heart.

X-ray picture shows the rebar inside the body of the man.

Dr. Chen, a surgeon at SAHZU, said, “Fortunately, it missed his heart otherwise nobody could have saved him.”

The rebar reportedly caused damage to a number of organs, which includes the liver, intestines, and the lungs of the construction worker.

Dr. Chen and a team of surgeons formulated a plan to remove the metal rod and saved the life of the worker.

The worker reportedly went through emergency surgery, which was conducted by a team of healthcare professionals in SAHZU.

Dr. Ke, a liver specialist, and Dr. Liang, a gastrointestinal specialist, were responsible for taking the metal rod out of the construction worker’s intestine.

Doctors successfully removed the rebar and saved the life of the construction worker.

Reports suggest that the man is currently recovering at the SAHZU hospital.
