Tubelight Movie Story Line:

Tubelight is a period drama set in the backdrop of 1962, Indo-Sino war tells the story of Laxman Singh Bisht (Salman), nicknamed “tubelight” by his neighbours because he is feeble-minded. Despite being special, Laxman lives by one life-lesson; keep your faith alive and you can do almost anything, even stop a war.

The movie is an entertaining family drama set in a small town in the hills of northern India and tells the story of one man’s love for his family and his unshakeable belief in himself. Laxman (Salman Khan), lives with his younger brother Bharat (Sohail Khan). They have been each other’s constants since they lost their parents at a young age and raised by an uncle (Om Puri).

Bharat and other youngsters from the town join the Indian army and go to the front to fight. Laxman also tries to join the army but fails the physical test and hence he stays back at home. An Indian woman of Chinese origin Lee Ling (Zhu Zhu) comes from Calcutta to stay there with her little son Guwo (Matin Ray Tangu). At first Laxman hates them but soon they became friends.

When Bharat gets chosen for the army, the gravity of the situation hits them. Laxman’s world comes crashing down, when war breaks out and Bharat gets drafted into the Army. A helpless Bharat leaves a devastated Laxman behind. News from the border only worsens, as the tension continues to escalate. Laxman keeps asking the army chief posted there, Major Rajveer Tokas (Yashpal Sharma) when will his brother return from war. However, no one gives a correct reply. On the other hand, few of them fear that Bharat is dead. Seeing the carnage around him and worried for his brother, the simple – minded Laxman decides he must stop this conflict and get his brother back who has been captured by Chinese Army. How he gets back his brother? is a major plot twist that brings everything together.

Tubelight Review:

Salman puts up a nice performance but not up to the mark. The war sequences are poorly mounted and evoke no emotion. Sohail & Salman scenes together are so natural and refreshing that hope to see them together in some road adventure movie. Sohail Khan pulls off an average performance. The lack of expressions on his face is noticeable. Also, Sohail’s screen time is restricted to the first few scenes. Shah Rukh Khan ’s cameo as a magician is good.

Tubelight Positives:

  • Salman Khan Performance
  • Matin Ray Tangu and Zhu Zhu’s screen Presence
  • BGM

Negatives:

  • War Sequences are poorly mounted
  • Direction

Allindiaroundup rating: 3/5

Final Verdict:

Tubelight movie has a great message in it. A worth watch movie leaves you moist-eyed for Salman’s acting. However, the film didn’t reach the expectations!
