All The Four Phogat Sisters Dropped From National Camps Citing ‘Indiscipline’

Aamir Khan’s biopic Dangal has surely left a great impression on India’s way of treating women. But what’s happening with the real-life personalities who are behind the storyline? It is generally said, ‘Fame and fortune can corrupt young mind’, well, despite being a cliche punchline, this has supposedly become true in the case of Phogat sisters. The female wrestling clan from Haryana, who rose to another level of fame after the ‘Dangal’, have been chucked out from the national preparatory camp which is a must for Asian Games trials.

Sources claim that the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) dropped all the four Phogat sisters — Geeta, Babita, Ritu and Sangeeta from the camp as everybody at the place were tired of their alleged “tantrums and indiscipline”.

A further report from other prominent news channels claimed that the Phogat sisters will not be allowed to take part in the Asiad trials. This means their hopes of representing the country in the Asian Games 2018, which is to be held in Jakarta and Palembang (Indonesia) in August-September this year, ends.

This all started after WFI has acted tough on the Phogat sisters as they skipped the national camp held recently in Lucknow which was made mandatory by the federation to prepare for the Asian Games. They have been issued show cause notice by WFI and asked for an explanation for their latest breach.

Talking about the same, WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, “It looks all of them are not taking the camp seriously. This is a gross breach of discipline on their part because the federation is struggling to ensure enough sparring partners at the women’s camp. This is not acceptable. We have immediately removed these offenders from the Lucknow and Sonepat camps. Moreover, they won’t be allowed to appear for the Asian Games trials”.

Excluding the Phogat sisters, other 11 men and women were given notices and ousted from the camp.
