Australians Aren’t Sledging Indians Anymore! Virender Sehwag Reveals The Strange Reason Behind This
The rivalry between India and Australia in terms of cricket is phenomenal. Starting off with the aspects of sledging, there is always enough space to fight in the means of cricket and conduct. While Australians are noted as the passionate and aggressive players, Bleed Blue is definitely the ‘silent charmers’, however, now that we have the most fierce captain Virat Kohli, one cannot commit to the word peace on the whole.
One cannot pass on the recent spat between Australian skipper Steve Smith and Indian skipper Virat Kohli. They both had an intense bait in between at various occasions. But, coming to the concept of sledging, it is Australians who brought this culture into popular cricket. Veteran cricketers are very much aware of it and it is them, who revealed many inside things.
But, to everyone’s surprise, days are somehow different now. Australians aren’t sledging Indians anymore and that is clearly visible. It is believed that it is Steve Smith’ ‘brain fade’ moment that pressed the confidence levels of the team. Smith is seen passing cues for the DRS appeal which was against the rules of the game. The player was slammed for that by various cricket authorities, though ICC didn’t penalize the team, this deed of the skipper is criticised by many.
Coming to the another reason behind Australians-not-sledging, veteran cricketer Virender Sehwag opined about it, he related the happenings with the IPL, said,
“They (Australian players) are scared because of the next year’s mega IPL auctions. If they had sledged the Indian players in the ODI series, then the Indian franchise owners might think before bidding high for the Australian players. This can also be a reason for them not to get involved in sledging with their Indian counterparts.”
He later added that “brain fade” incident might have kept the Australians quiet this time.
Talking about the form of Australian cricket, Sehwag added, “I think the Australian team was playing under pressure because they don’t have all the great players now. Their team was dependent on two or three players — David Warner, Steve Smith, and Aaron Finch.
The 38-Year-Old then concluded, “Out of these three players, Smith couldn’t do much. Also, I think the fair amount of criticism which Smith received due to some of his actions, including the “brain fade” moment during the Test series created pressure on them.”
For all the karma, we have seen the morale of Australia in the previous decade, ‘sledging’ is a thing for which Australia is one of the most hated International teams. And now with the advent of IPL, all it has ended.
