The much-awaited India vs Australia limited-overs series started yesterday and the first ODI was hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The crowd at the stadium went berserk as it is Dhoni’s first ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, after a gap of two years.

Chepauk-flashes

Despite the excitement, the match was interrupted by rain at the halfway stage and didn’t resume until 3 and half hours after the scheduled start of play. Apart from MS Dhoni’s appearance, there is another highlight that needs to be discussed.

As soon as the clock struck 8’O clock, the fans at the Chepauk put out their mobile phones with the flashlights turned on. It was not just another day when the fans flash the lights but it was a pre-planned move. A photo was circulated on WhatsApp which read ‘Chepauk mobile flashlights 8:00 PM in solidarity with Doctor Anitha #Banneet’ and the crowd obliged to the request.

Here’s The Picture:

Solitary to Anitha

The state of Tamil Nadu and its capital Chennai has been in the news since an aspiring doctor Anitha S committed suicide after the Supreme Court made the (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) NEET exam as the only basis for medical admissions.

Anitha secured just 86 marks out of 700 in the NEET whereas she had an overwhelming score in the state government held exam. With this NEET score she wouldn’t secure an admission and thus fought against NEET in the Madras High Court but after the Supreme Court verdict, she hung herself at her residence.

The death caused shockwaves across a state that has been grappling with the NEET issue for quite some time. This led to people from all corners of the state in expressing their shock and solidarity in the wake of her death. Many students from across the state held protests seeking justice for her and a resolution to the ongoing NEET issue.

Her lawyer P.B. Suresh Babu, told the media that she had scored 196.75 for medical cut-off and 199.75 for engineering cut-off, whereas her plus 2 score was 1,176 marks out of 1,200.

Thus, showing solitary with Anitha S, each and every person in the Chepauk Stadium stood up in support and protested against the SC by flashing the lights of their mobile phones.
