Gautam Gambhir Gives Financial Support To 1998 Asian Games Boxing Champion Dingko Singh

Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir isn’t the kind of player who loves the limelight but he has always been in the news for his on-field antics. Needless to say, off the field, he is one of the most humble cricketers in the world.

When it comes to doing something good, Gambhir is that one sportsman who never steps back.

Recently, he came forward to support former Indian boxer and 1998 Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh, who has been suffering from bile duct cancer.

Hailing from Manipur, Dingko Singh won the Gold Medal at 1998 Asian Games as a Champion and has was also awarded prestigious Arjuna Award in 1998 and Padma Shri in 2013.

But recently, Dingko has been suffering from bile duct cancer and after going through Chemotherapy on Tuesday at Imphal, it has been found that he lost 70% of his liver and it had to be removed.

Earlier to this, Singh was receiving treatment at Delhi and had spent over 10 lacs for his treatment. Due to financial instability, it was reported that Singh had sold some of his properties, including his house over the course of his treatment and thereby Singh moved to their ancestral house.

Sports Minister Vijay Goel took a pledge to give all his support to Dingko but it was too late as Dingko had already shifted to Imphal(ancestral house).

When Gautam Gambhir heard the news he came forward to rescue the Indian boxing champion. The former opener supported him financially and also said that there were many ways the boxer could be helped by the country.

Gambhir also mentioned that he would not like to publicize or advertise about what he is doing. He also appealed his fans on Twitter to help the boxer’s family.

We must take care of our champions just as they make us proud. Help Asian Games Gold winner by sending a text to Babai-his wife at 8131830664,” the 35-year-old tweeted.

Gambhir has proved himself a true sportsman. This kind act by Gambhir will inspire many and will also make his fans love and respect him more!

We hope that Gambhir’s support will help Dinkgo get the best treatment and recover soon. What’s your take on this? Share your view in the comments section below.
