Jadeja Run Outs Twice To Tie The Match Against Mumbai Indians, Twitter Reactions
Yesterday’s match in between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions is one milestone in this 10th installment of IPL. The happening of Super over added a good color to the match, the presence of Gujarat Lions’ bowler Ravindra Jadeja and Mumbai Indians’ bowler Jasprit Bumrah was quite crucial. The former did well by proceeding with two run outs and the later grabbed in the match in the Super over delivering a victory to Mumbai Indians.
One must admit that the yesterday’s match was one of its very own kind, which rarely happens. Most surprisingly, four of MI wickets were run outs and all the four were taken by the left-handers.
Though Faulkner started the pace, it was Ravindra Jadeja’s show, taking out twin run outs and a brilliant direct hit from Irfan Pathan on his debut for the Lions, which were crucial in holding back Mumbai who were cantering towards victory at one stage.
Post that amusing over, Irfan Pathan was summoned to bowl the last over in which the first ball itself was six, but the real fun was during the following balls. Pandya took a single next ball which got the No. 10 Bumrah on strike. Bumrah tapped and set for the single to get Pandya back on strike and in came Jadeja from backward point. He picked the ball and released it immediately to hit the stumps directly. Bumrah was a couple of inches short of his ground.
At the moment, the match was wrapped up at 4 to win off 3 balls, the equation was pretty simple but they had just one wicket in hand as Malinga joined Pandya in the mid-way. He steered the next two balls for three runs which left Malinga to get the last run off the last ball of the match.
After observing the situation, Raina addressed him men inside the ring believing that Malinga won’t go for the big one. Everyone knew that Pandya will back-up a very long way so the fielders had to be on their toes momentarily.
And it was Jadeja’s time, quickly picking the ball, fired onto the stumps hitting them directly again. He didn’t bother to wait for the umpire’s decision and set off in celebration. The replay confirmed the run out of Pandya, as he was agonizingly short by just half an inch to the crease.
This twin run-outs by Jadeja gave Gujarat another opportunity to come back in the game but they couldn’t capitalize the benefits losing the match in the super over by mere 5 runs margin.
