MS Dhoni Becomes First Indian Wicket-keeper to Effect 400 Dismissals in ODIs

MS Dhoni, the name well marked as an excellence in Wicket keeping is nowhere gone, it has been a long tenure for Maahi being the wicketkeeper, with no single flaw, he has been proving himself right from the beginning. Dhoni is still on roll donning behind the wickets though he bid adios to test format.

Dhoni stumping

Over the years, we have seen Dhoni work very hard on his skills behind the stumps and outfox the opposition batters with his unorthodox moves, which is why he is one of the smartest wicket-keepers in the history of the cricket.

Dhoni has a great vision that he won’t miss any chance behind the stumps. In fact, he creates chances from nowhere and helps Indian cricket team by taking wicket purely because of his master class behind the stumps. And now former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap on Wednesday.

Dhoni became the first Indian and just the fourth overall wicketkeeper to effect 400 dismissals in One-Day Internationals. Only Kumar Sangakkara (482) from Sri Lanka, Adam Gilchrist (472) from Australia and Mark Boucher (424) from South Africa have matched this before.

The World Cup-winning skipper achieved the rare feat when he stumped South Africa’s stand-in captain Aiden Markram off chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the 3rd ODI in Cape Town. It was one of those special Dhoni stumpings once again, with the batsman not even given an opportunity to attempt a return back to the crease as MSD dislodged bails in no time.

In 315 ODIs so far, Dhoni has taken 294 catches in addition to affecting a record 106 dismissals. The 36-year old is the first and so far only wicketkeeper to reach 100 stumpings in the 50-over format.

Team India, who were struggling to even draw the Test matches in South Africa, now find themselves 3-0 up in the 6-match series and on brink of becoming the first Indian side to win an ODI series in the Rainbow Nation.

However, India managed to post a formidable total of 303 for six in the allotted 50 overs, courtesy of a majestic 160-run knock by skipper Virat Kohli. Shikhar Dhawan also made a useful contribution, scoring a fluent 76.
