[WATCH] MS Dhoni Turns Wide Ball Into A Wicket By Convincing Virat Kohli To Take DRS

The 4th ODI between India and Sri Lanka is a landmark match for the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni as it is his 300th ODI playing for India and it is the debut match for the young bowler Shardul Thakur. Dhoni was the center of attention in Colombo even as a dominant India look to inflict more misery on Sri Lanka.

India opted to bat first and set a huge target of 376 runs for the hosts. After chipping in with an unbeaten 49 in India’s massive 375/5 against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI, Dhoni helped Shardul Thakur take his maiden wicket on debut.

Dhoni DRS India vs Sri Lanka

India’s young fast bowler Shardul Thakur made an impressive start to his One Day International career in the match. Shardul, who is rated very highly in the domestic circuit of India, bowled consistent lines at a good pace and didn’t give too many runs with the new ball.

In the third over, Shardul dismissed Sri Lanka’s Niroshan Dickwella and picked his first wicket in ODI cricket. Niroshan Dickwella was going after the new ball but Thakur got one to bounce just short of the length. It wasn’t the best of deliveries but he got lucky. The Sri Lanka opener tried to hook and the umpire called wide down the leg-side.

But Dhoni was up promptly in a loud appeal. Once he had been turned down, he told Virat Kohli he heard a definite noise. First, the umpire gave it a wide. Dhoni was confident that some noise was heard by him and Virat Kohli without wasting time, went for a review.

It was going down the leg stump and got a little tickle on Dickwella’s glove. Eventually, the divisor was reviewed by India and the umpire had to change his original decision.

As a result, Dickwella was given out. This is not the first time that MS Dhoni has done such a thing. He is the most reliable man when it comes to using DRS. Today, it was Dhoni’s cricketing intelligence which came to the fore, once again. The Decision Review System (DRS) has already been dubbed Dhoni Review System thanks to has many spots on reviews.

However, the huge target made the hosts far away as team India won the fourth ODI leading the series 4-0. The fifth and final match will be played at the same venue i.e. R Premadasa Stadium, on Sunday (September 3). Then, the two teams will engage in a lone T20I match before winding up the long series, which witnessed India thumping the hosts.
