The 36-year-old is the only recognized batsman who helped his team from the biggest danger at the right time. Dhoni whacked ten boundaries, two sixes and ran few singles to take India to a decent position.

Team India has a formidable ODI record against the Sri Lankans, who are being led by the veteran all-rounder Thisara Perera. Whereas, Rohit Sharma gets an opportunity to present his captaincy skills in an ODI match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium in Dharamsala.

But, Suranga Lakmal and Angelo Mathews and NuwanPradeep’ spell have put India in all sorts of trouble. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the visitors were successful restricting the Indian batsmen to score runs and also take wickets at regular intervals.

In the process, Dhoni has reached the 16000-run mark in international cricket. Dhoni’s innings was crucial in team India’s play. He didn’t get a good partnership from the other end but scored well made 65 to put the hosts out of embarrassment.

Despite the poor performance of the other batsmen, Twitterati praised Dhoni for his fine knock and not letting India from registering their lowest ODI total.

Twitter Reactions:

Clearly, the man makes a lot of news whenever he is scoring or the other way round. This time around, Dhoni has saved the Indian team from an embarrassing feat of getting bowled out below 50.
