Nagaland Women Bowled Out For 2 Runs By Kerala Women In A U-19 One-Day League Match
Two. It is precisely the total for a cricket team. Yes, it’s true.
It is a domestic tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
It was in a U19 One-Day league match, Nagaland Women were bowled out against Kerala Women at JKC College Ground, Guntur for just two runs. And to think about it, they batted seventeen overs.
It is unbelievable, but everyone had to believe. The fate of women’s cricket doesn’t look good in India as far as the junior level is concerned. Nagaland won the toss and opted to bat first. But they were dismantled by the bowlers right through as wickets kept on falling after every two overs.
Opener Menka (who took the first strike) scored half the total. Her 1, from 18 balls, seems almost Bradmanesque since the other run came off a wide. Both Menka’s run and the wide came before a wicket fell, which meant that all 10 wickets fell without the addition of a run. There were 9 ducks, and No. 11 Priyanka remained unbeaten.
Aleena Surendran was easily the worst of the Kerala bowlers, with figures of 3-2-2-0. She is the only bowler to concede every single run but was also the only one to go wicketless. The bowling figures of Kerala Women are as follows. Sourabhya P (6-6-0-2), Minnu Mani (4-4-0-4), Sandra Suren (2-2-0-1), and Biby Sebastian (2-2-0-1).
Nagaland women, on the other hand, looked just hapless and no batter could stop the procession. However, this could be the fastest chase ever in the history of cricket at any level as Kerala won the game off the first ball of their innings.
The opening batter for Kerala, Ansu Raju smashed a boundary to register the biggest win by 10 wickets and 299 balls remaining. Thus, the match was finished off only in 17.1 overs and a total of 7 runs were scored for the loss of 10 wickets which should also be the lowest match aggregate ever.
Kerala Women Under-19 took a single ball to chase the target down, improving upon Nepal’s triumph over Myanmar in ACC 2006 (when Nepal won in 2 balls).
Both sides came into the match having lost their opening three games of the tournament but it was Nagaland who remained winless after an embarrassing defeat. Kerala finally got off the mark in the tournament but still remain fifth in the Super League Group B, now level with Delhi on points but behind on net run-rate.
