Here’s How Sachin Tendulkar Hails MS Dhoni For Completing Century Of Half-Centuries In ODIs
Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar and Cool, Mahendra Singh Dhoni are undoubtedly the two golden wings of 21st-century’s Indian cricket. Both contributed their best in the possible ways. One bagged back-to-back centuries while another won matches with the ultimate strategies.
Having seen both on the pitch running in between wickets was definitely an eye-feasting treat for every Indian cricket lover. Sachin is now retired, while Dhoni is still on roll donning behind the wickets though he bid adios to test format. Despite that, both players sometimes make their appearances on social media platforms talking about each other at mandatory moments.
Well, here’s one that recently joined the row. It was from the first ODI between India and Australia at the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai. The crowd at the stadium went berserk as it is Dhoni’s first ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, after a gap of two years. Fans expressed their delight at Dhoni walking down to bat even though the score was hardly in India’s favor.
But, Dhoni maintained his calm and cool nature by showing yet another masterpiece where he struck a match-defining partnership with Hardik Pandya to save the day for his side for the nth time in his career. Dhoni scored a brilliant 88-ball 79 runs scoring 4 fours and two sixes in his trademark style.
Just when the team looks distraught to reach even a total of 220, India ended up with a match-winning total of 281, thanks to the innings from Mahi. He was guarded up front, looking for the singles and giving the strike to Pandya who looked in superior form before launching the final assault during death overs.
In between all the action, MS Dhoni brought up his 100th International half-century and became the 14th cricketer to bring up the feat. You know what, Sachin Tendulkar, who scored a century of centuries himself lauded the effort of the former captain for his contribution to Indian cricket.
Dhoni had been on a successful record-breaking spree since the recently concluded Sri Lankan series. Firstly, he overhauled the tally of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin in terms of runs scored in ODIs. He is now fourth highest run-getter for India in the 50-over format and is only behind stalwarts such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid.
With those efforts, he has the most number of not-outs in ODI cricket, overhauling 72 not-outs by Shaun Pollock and Chaminda Vaas. Dhoni also has the most number of unbeaten innings in International Cricket including all three formats of the game.
However, Pandya ended up with a knock of 83 off just 66 balls at a strike rate of 125, smashing 5 sixes and 5 boundaries and Dhoni with 79 runs. India won the match by 26 runs taking a lead 1-0 in 5-match ODI series.
