Rio Olympics’ bronze medal winner, Sakshi Malik, received a grand welcome in Haryana when she returned home. India was feeling proud of her and so was her native state.

But recently, Sakshi Malik claimed that she has not yet received the incentives promised to her by the Haryana government after her historic medal at the Rio Games.
Not only did the athlete accused the Haryana government of not fulfilling its promise, but also she blamed that the state government of making announcements to gain mileage from the media.
She tweeted, “I have fulfilled my promise of a medal. When will Haryana government fulfill its promises?”

Sakshi got a grand reception by the Haryana government when she returned with a bronze medal. The Chief Minister of the state awarded her with the cheque of Rs. 2.5 crore and she was also selected for becoming the brand ambassador of Haryana for ‘Beti Padhao-Beti Bachao’ program. Not only this, a Class II rank post was also offered to her by the Indian Railways.
However, Haryana sports minister Anil Vij refuted Sakshi Malik’s claim that the state government was yet to honor its “promises” made to her for winning an Olympics bronze medal.
The minister alleged that some people might have “prevailed upon” her to tweet in which she raised questions about the Haryana government’s commitment towards fulfilling its promises.
“Some people may have prevailed upon her to write in this manner. Sports politics is deeper than our real politics and we do not understand that.“
