Serena Williams loses to Sofia Kenin in the third round of the French Open, this is her earliest exit since 2014.

The loss of Serena Williams comes after hours Naomi Osaka, the world number one, was defeated by Katerina Siniakova, from Czech Republic, 6-4 and 6-2.

Williams was beaten by 20-year-old Sofia Kenin 6-2 and 7-5, Sofia also represents the United States.

Sofia Kenin was not even born when Serena Williams debuted in 1998 in Paris.

After the losses of Serena and Naomi, 14 of the top 20 women in the sport failed to make it in the second week in the French Open.

This is the earliest exit of Serena William since 2014, in which she lost to Alize Cornet at Wimbledon.

During the press conference after the game, Serena said, “She played really well, especially in the first set where she hit pretty much within an inch of the line all the time.”

She added, “I would have expected to have gotten past the third round. If someone said I would only get this far, I’d have said they were a liar. I haven’t been on the court as much as I would have wanted to. It’s been a grueling season.”

20-year-old Sofia Kenin currently sits at the 35 spot, she will be facing Ashleigh Barty of Australia, she is currently at the 8th spot.

Kenin and Barty will fight for a place in the quarter-finals.

During the press conference, Kenin said, “There are a lot of emotions now.”

She added, “Serena is such a great champion and I have all the respect for her.”
