Sourav Ganguly Valuable Advice To Virat Kohli Ahead Of Final T20I Match With England

Virat Kohli is currently the most loved Indian cricketer, despite his amazing strike rates, he proved his excellence in captaincy these days. Virat Kohli and the Indian team play England in the second of the three-match T20I series in Nagpur on Sunday and India won by 5 runs. But, former skipper Sourav Ganguly feels it is not enough.

For the second time in a row, the Indian batsmen have failed to shine and former captain Sourav Ganguly felt that Virat Kohli should experiment with India’s batting lineup in the series-decider in Bangalore on February 1.

India pulled off a miracle victory in Nagpur but that was largely down to the heroics of pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra. The Indian batsman failed in shining in the short over format. At this point of time, Saurav Ganguly advised Kohli to make some changes.

Ganguly said: “I think India needs a change in the batting order, to be honest in the final game going into Bangalore. I think Manish Pandey should bat at No.3 and Raina can probably come down at No.6 and depending on a number of overs played. MS Dhoni should go up the order. I have been saying this for a long time maybe 4-5 years now that in T20s Dhoni should be batting much higher and playing more freely. But the team management has got to decide this and take a call”.

“I don’t believe in this word finisher and we keep hearing about it. You bat 20 overs and you finish. If you are set then you can be a better finisher than when you come in at the 17th or 18th over without a ball next to your name. So I think the word finisher is just overrated in cricket and I think it is the time that hopefully the team management takes this up and try and give our best players the maximum number of deliveries,” explained Ganguly.

The case of Dhoni is curious to say the least. Widely regarded as one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket, Dhoni has not scored a fifty for India in T20Is despite playing 75 matches.  For almost all these matches, Dhoni was the skipper and time and again he has said that he wanted to take the responsibility of ‘finishing’ games for the team.
