Team India Clinches ICC 2018 U19 Cricket World Cup, Here’s What BCCI Announced As Reward

Young Prithvi Shaw-led India U-19 cricket team shaped a fine performance in the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup against Australia today. The Boys in Blue created history by winning a record fourth title, beating Australia by eight wickets in the final in New Zealand. Indian team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.

After winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first at Bay Oval. They seemed to set a total more than 250 but only to collapse to 216. Kangaroos were bowled out in 48 over itself as Indian bowlers didn’t give them the chance of playing complete 50 overs. Later, in the chase, Indian opener Manjot Kalra smashed 101 not out to lead India to the title with 11 overs to spare.

Kalra’s superb knock came off 102 balls, with eight fours and three sixes. Harvik Desai was also unbeaten on 47. It was a record-breaking 4th U-19 World Cup title that India had won so far in the history. The BCCI, Coach Rahul  Dravid were overwhelmed with the players and their outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

Minutes after team India defeated Australia in the ICC Under 19 World Cup final 2018, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for coach Rahul Dravid and each member of the team. All the other members of the support staff will get Rs 20 lakh each by the board.

“BCCI announces prize money for victorious India U19 team. Mr. Rahul Dravid, Head Coach India U19 Rs 50 lakhs. Members of India U19 team Rs 30 lakhs each, Members of the Support Staff, India U19 Rs 20 lakhs each,” the board said in a tweet.

“I congratulate the U19 team who have made the country proud. Head Coach Rahul Dravid played his cricket with sincerity and it was pleasing to see the boys uphold the value. They have been fantastic athletes and even better ambassadors. The boys have done so well, and I am sure they will work hard and climb the ladder and represent the senior team in the future,” said the head of COA, Vinod Rai, in a media release issued by BCCI.

India’s last title win in the ICC Under 19 World Cup had come six years ago in 2012 under the leadership of Unmukt Chand when the team had beaten Australia in the final. The Virat Kohli-led side was victorious in 2008 and Mohammed Kaif was captain when India triumphed way back in 2000.
