The Indian women’s cricket team faced a heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup final to hosts England at Lord’s in July 2017. The Indian women players fought well throughout the tournament and made it to the World Cup finals for the second time. They were the favorites right from the start of the tournament but couldn’t lift the cup at the end.

Though team India was defeated, they made a lot of changes in Indian women’s cricket in terms of promoting the sport in the country, encouraging the women to participate in sports.

The gender disparity is a big problem in India and it is visible not just in corporate jobs, politics, etc. but also in sports; however, the good thing is that it is slowly diminishing in some sports including cricket.

2017 has become one of the best years for women sportspersons in India. They had made the country proud by winning Olympic medals and other important tournaments. The Indian women cricket team also made us proud of their superb performance in the Women World Cup.

Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj has played a great role in bringing the team to this level and that is why she is also called Sachin Tendulkar of Indian women cricket.

According to the latest release, the Telangana government on Thursday presented Rs 1 crore and a house site of 600 square-feet to Mithali Raj. She was felicitated by the Telangana Sports Minister, T Padma Rao who also presented Rs. 25 lakhs to RSR Murthy, the coach of Mithali Raj.

The incentives have been presented as per Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s directives for promoting sports, Padma Rao said.

Coming to the wicket at times when batting is difficult, Mithali has shown an ability to soldier on without being perturbed. Raj is currently the highest scorer in the world in the one-day format of the game scoring 6190 runs at an average of 51.58 in 1:86 matches. She also has a good record in the shortest format scoring 1708 runs in 61 games.
