This Indian Cricketer Still Lives In A Village Even After Being The Part Of The Winning 2011 World Cup Team!
Do you still remember the fast bowler who was called the Bharuch Express? Yes, We are talking about the Munaf Patel who earned a name for himself in the Indian Cricket Team all by himself. This 34-year cricketer hails from a small village in Ikhar, Gujarat.
He was into cricket since he was a child but never dreamt of becoming one owing to his financial conditions. His father used to work in fields of others as a manual labour. Munaf also joined a marble company to help his family financially for 8hours and earned a wage of Rs. 35.
Munaf used to play cricket in school and then go to work in the marble company. After seeing his balling skills, a friend of his talked about the same with his school teacher who in turn advised Munaf to concentrate on his game rather than working at the marble company.
After a few years, he met a friend called Yusuf who changed his life to better. They went to play cricket in Baroda and Yusuf lent his shoes for Munaf to play in the match and Munaf got a place in the cricket club.
Munaf used to travel for 90minutes to reach Baroda from his village to begin his training. Munaf’s desire to become a cricketer and play for the national team grew even stronger at this point in time. Munaf debuted in Indian Cricket in the year 2009 where he had taken 9 wickets in his first test against England. He also participated in the IPL and played in the teams of Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Lions.
Munaf had the support of Sachin Tendulkar during his time in Mumbai Indians team but the team chose to let him go and he, later on, joined the Rajasthan Royals Squad but in 2014 he remained unsold though his base price was only Rs. 10lakhs. Gujarat Lions gave him a chance in IPL 10th season and bought him for Rs. 30lakhs.
In spite of enjoying stardom for a brief period of time, Munaf Patel still lives in Village along with his family. But don’t you think he should get more recognition from BCCI? Comment down below and let us know what do you think!
