Twitterati Slammed Shobhaa De For Criticising Indian Men’s Cricket Team

Shobhaa De, Indian columnist is a popular personality on Twitter. She is popular for her offensive comments on certain issues and individuals, not for her novels. Many believe that her negative actions are publicity stunts, so she has more haters than fans.

Shobhaa De’s recent tweet embroiled herself in a controversy putting her views on Cricket. She took to social media on Tuesday to share something about the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. Shobhaa took a nasty dig at the Men Cricketers of India in a tweet.

It did not go well with Twitterati. While she prayed to God to keep the Indian Women’s team away from commercialization, she also mentioned that the same financial greed has ruined the careers of our men’s team. It was an unnecessary attack on Virat Kohli and his men who have tasted gigantic success in the recent years despite being associated with several commercial brands.

Mithali Raj and Co have been the toast of the nation ever since they returned from England after an impressive ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 campaign. Everyone, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has lauded the Women in Blue for their efforts in reaching the final.

“Oh, Lord! Please protect our amazing women cricketers from crass commercialization and greed that has ruined most of our Boys in Blue,” Shobhaa De wrote on Twitter.

In no time, fans started giving her appropriate replies for defaming the Indian Men’s Cricket Team. While some prayed to God to save the women cricketers from worthless page 3 columnists, others accused her of writing for money and not for the love of literature.

However, what’s ridiculous in De’s comment is the idea that male cricketers in India have gotten ruined because of greed. The Indian men’s team is at the top of the rankings in almost every format of the game. They have worked very hard to get there. If they are offered exorbitant amounts of money for commercials, it’s because they enjoy the love of the masses in the country.

Them being rich and famous doesn’t mean they’re ‘ruined’ and not committed to their job. This thought seems even more silly when one realizes we have (arguably) the most motivated captain ever at this point.

There were some who asked her to keep her narrow mentality to herself and pointed out that the women can be praised without criticizing the men.
