Dean Jones Tries To Downplay Virat Kohli Milestone, Gets Brutally Trolled By Twitterati
After the huge dominance in the series against Australia, team India lost the opening ODI against New Zealand by six wickets at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Ross Taylor and Tom Latham put up a 200 run partnership for the 4th wicket to register the victory for their side, making them 1-0 ahead in the three-match ODI series.
Despite the loss, India still had a few highlights and one such was in the form of Virat Kohli, who scored his 31st century in his 200th appearance. The Indian fans were not happy with the Indian bowling department as they conceded runs to the opponents instead of taking wickets.
Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones always likes to add fuel to fire and he did it again on Sunday after Virat Kohli’s 31st ODI century went in vain at the Wankhede Stadium. Dean Jones seems to get a kick from riling up Indian cricket fans and he was once again up to his mischief following the first One-Day International between India and New Zealand.
India skipper Virat Kohli completed a few milestones on the day, one of which was that he became the fastest to score 1000 runs in ODIs against New Zealand, leapfrogging none other than Dean Jones to top spot. While the Australian did congratulate Kohli, he added a rider to his tweet, that “it’s only New Zealand”.
Jones had taken 19 innings to reach the landmark while the Indian run-machine got there in 17 innings. Replying to an Indian fan’s post, Jones wrote: “Well played @imVkohli !! But then again… it’s only New Zealand!”

Reacting to this, the fans decided to share their two cents with the Australian. Most fans on Twitter understood that Jones was just making some mischief and decided to have some banter with the Australian.

The Indian skipper’s century was overpowered by the partnership between Ross Taylor (95) and Tom Latham (103*) that helped New Zealand chase the 281-run target with an over to spare. The duo put on a record stand to help New Zealand earn a clinical victory. Both the batsmen batted with a lot of purposes, chasing down a target of 281 in 49 overs with minimum fuss.
