Watch: Umesh Yadav’s Silly Catch Of Joe Root Raises Controversy

In the on-going Test match between India and England at Rajkot, the visitors have dominated the first day with Joe Root’s brilliant century and his partnership with Moeen Ali left them in safe hands. Though Indian bowlers tried their best to restrict the English batsmen and take wickets, Joe Root and Moeen Ali stood strong facing Indian fast and spin bowlers.

Joe Root struck a brilliant century to put his team ahead on the first day, but his dismissal raised a controversy at the end of the day. Root was consistent throughout the day until he was caught and bowled by Indian pacer Umesh Yadav.

In the 81st over with England on a solid 281/3, Root drove back a pitch-up delivery resulting Umesh to take the catch in the same motion. Though Umesh caught the ball, he lost it from his hands desperately turning to see it go to ground. It seemed that the bowler was not in control when the ball went to the ground.

It was sent to the upstairs to the third umpire for a review. A few replays later, TV umpire, Rod Tucker, ruled the catch was good, to the relief of the Indian camp. Joe Root walked away disappointed.
