Right from the start of cricket in the International level, we had and have been watching many shots and moves by the players enhancing the game step by step. There are many different and innovative shots created by the players in different instances.

One such shot is ‘Helicopter Shot’. Whenever we talk about this it,  there is only one name that strikes in our minds and it is MS Dhoni, isn’t it? It is one of the hardest shots in the game of cricket as it requires a lot of strength, wrist work, flawless technique and perfect timing to execute it.

Once MS Dhoni played this shot, it went crazy with the cricket fans in the world especially India. Dhoni has made millions of fans with this shot which has later become his signature shot.

After MS Dhoni introduced this shot in the International cricket, there are many young cricketers in the world who tried to copy his helicopter shot but didn’t get 100% success. And there are a lot of cricketers who have tried to imitate but in vain.

But in a recent video, it was Virender Sehwag, Brett Lee, Dean Jones and VVS Laxman who tried their hands to emulate Dhoni’s Helicopter Shot. During the first T20I between India and Australia at Ranchi, fans couldn’t watch their hero’s signature shot but saw former cricketers who played it.

Star Sports, the broadcaster decided to organize a challenge between the commentary team and they tried to clear the ropes with the Helicopter before the match. It was Virender Sehwag who looked better than others playing the shot.

The helicopter shot is one of those shots which look very easy to play but when it comes to execution, one has to make careful calculations. Although Dhoni has been credited with perfecting the nuances of the shot and making it popular, he wasn’t the first cricketer to have tried it.

Sir Vivian Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Abdul Razzaq have all played this shot before Dhoni even came into the foray of international cricket. However, Dhoni’s version is unmatched in terms of the sheer fear it propagates in the opposition bowler.

India was left to chase a revised target of 48 in 6 overs as per DLS method after heavy rains. Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 22 and 15 cruised to the target in 5.3 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
