10-Year-Old Girl Found With Throat Slit And Words Carved On Body, 14-Year-Old Cousin Charged With Murder
A 14-year-old girl from Australia has been charged with murder after she slit the throat of her 10-year-old cousin and carved words on her body.
The incident happened in Gunnedah, New South Wales, Australia.
According to the police, the 10-year-old girl’s body was found at a property in Gunnedah at around 7:15 am on July 8, 2020.
The girl had her throat slit and had words carved on her body.
The mother of the 10-year-old girl left their house at around 6:30 am with another child to carry out farm duties.
The mother returned 30 minutes later and found her niece.
The girl was at a property in the neighborhood.
Emergency responders were called at the scene to provide treatment to the kid, however, she was pronounced dead.
The cousin traveled 350 kilometers from Orange City to stay with the 10-year-old girl during the school holidays.
The suspect is currently being held at the Gunnedah Police Station, where she has been refused bail.
According to reports, the 14-year-old cousin will appear before a children’s court on Thursday.
Forensic Officers scoured the property on Wednesday and will be staying there to remain there over the coming days.
The local council of Gunnedah released a statement about the incident, where they said:
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We are a strong and tight-knit community — and together we will support the family and our community through this.
Jamie Chaffery, the Gunnedah Mayor Councillor, said:
They’re dealing with this devastation of losing a young member of the family. The community has been through so much through three years of drought and COVID-19 but we are resilient and supportive of each other to get through the tough times.
Councillor Chaffery said that the community of their city was devastated by the incident that happened to the 10-year-old girl.
He added:
We will be there to support each other and we will support the family.
The City of Gunnedah is just over 430 kilometers from Sydney.
The city has a population of around 13,000 people.
