The BBQ was being held for the 4th of July celebrations last night.

The man stopped at his aunt’s house to pick up a phone charger en route.

At around 9:20 pm on Saturday, Davon was shot in the head.

Tony Lawson, the grandfather of Davon, spoke with local news media to talk about the death of the 11-year-old.

During the interview, Lawson talked about the love of Davon for Football and called an end to gun violence.

Trying to fight back the tears, Lawson said:

He was a good kid. I mean, his life gone. 11-years-old, he hadn’t lived his life yet, 11-years-old. We got to stop killing each other. Stop it. Put the guns down. Parents you know your son out. You know what your kids out here doing. If you know, stop ‘em. Stop ‘em before they hurt somebody else. Just stop it, stop it, please stop it.

Muriel Bowser, the Mayor of DC, said:

A mother lost her 11-year-old son to gunfire tonight. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.
