60-Year-Old Captain Jumps 40ft Into The Sea To Save Drowning Woman
A heroic 60-year-old captain was caught on cam jumping 40 feet from his ship to into the sea to rescue a drowning passenger who had fallen overboard.
U Myint Aye, the captain of the ship, had been steering his boat into the Dala Port on Burma’s Yangon River on February 18, 2020, when Khin Chan Mya accidentally fell into the sea.
Without thinking twice, the captain steered the ship away from the edge of the port so the drowning woman can be saved.
He later jumped into the sea fully clothed so he could save the drowning passenger.
Luckily, Aye and 2 other crew members managed to drag the woman back to safety with a crowd of locals helping to pull them onto dry land.
After the dramatic rescue, Khin Chan Mya, who was described as being shocked upon the rescue, was rushed to the hospital.
An unnamed passenger explained how the woman fell into the sea.
The passenger said, “I saw that she was falling onto the water when the boat reached the pier.”
Shortly after his life-saving rescue, the heroic captain was photographed holding a well-earned pint of beer alongside with the people that helped him save the woman.
When the 3 men jumped into the water, they were wearing the same clothes.
Each man has since received a recognition plaque to honor their remarkable rescue with town officials praising their quick action.
U Mying Aye talked about him saving the woman.
He said, “At that time I did not think about any risks to my own life. I jumped just because I wanted the woman to be safe. I am old now, it is fine if I die, the young woman should be alive. I am very proud of myself that I have saved so many lives during my working life.”
According to reports, the captain had worked on ferries for over 40 years and has plans to retire this year.
Talking about the number of drowning people he have saved, the captain said he has lost count now.
