Detroit Woman Who Was Declared Dead Found Alive By Shocked Workers Inside Funeral Home

A woman from Detroit, who was declared dead and was shipped to a funeral home, was found by workers alive.

The woman, who was not identified, was sent to the James H. Cole Funeral Home by her family after she was found unresponsive inside her apartment.

Paramedics had declared her dead after they failed to resuscitate her.

But when mortuary workers came to her head body, she was found breathing.

The funeral home released a statement about the incident, where they said:

While it is our practice not to comment on open investigations, we can confirm that on Sunday, August 23, 2020, we received a call to pick up a Southfield woman who was deceased. Upon arrival at the funeral home, our staff confirmed she was breathing and called EMS.

The woman was found in her house in Detroit at around 7:30 am on Sunday.

Southfield Fire Chief Johnny Menifee said that paramedics performed CPS on the woman for 30 minutes with hopes of life-reviving her, however, she was declared dead.

Chief Menifee added:

Given medical readings and the condition of the patient, it was determined at that time that she did not have signs of life.

Menifee said that firefighters called in the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office and confirmed that the patient had died.

The body was released directly to the family so they could make arrangements with a funeral home that they want.

Later that day when the body of the woman was sent to the funeral home, officials from the funeral home called the fire department to inform them that the patient was alive.

Dave Fornell, the Detroit Fire Department Deputy Commissioner, said:

They did the normal medical interventions and that’s when the funeral home told them that she was to be embalmed and all that. It kind of surprised us. We couldn’t believe it. I talked to our medical people and they said she was breathing, she had a decent heart rate, she had decent blood-oxygen. But she was definitely alive when we got there.

The woman is currently admitted at the Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit.

The hospital did not release any information about the woman.

Her current health condition remains a mystery.
