GTDC Bans Plastic Bottles, Plastic Cups, And Plastic Straws In Goa

Goa decided to join and fight in eliminating plastic waste in the entire state. The Goa Tourism Development Corporation announced earlier that the state government has decided to place a ban on Plastic Bottles, Cups, and straws.

The Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Dayanand Sopte, said, “This decision will go a long way in contributing towards environment protection and in reducing plastic waste which has become a bane in the state. Growing plastic waste is a major concern and it is important to keep our environment plastic-free.”

After the ban, tea, coffee, water, and other liquid beverages will be sold and served in the state in cups that are made out of paper of glass.

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation said that water dispensers and water filters are also going to be installed in government-owned offices.

Chairman Sopte said, “We at GTDC have taken on this campaign from the head office first and all our residencies will execute this within the next three months so that we can play a significant role in the endeavor to conserve the environment. This decision of banning the use of plastic items will help towards creating an environmentally sustainable tourism sector.”

Plastic waste is a major issue in the tourism industry alone, and plastic bottles alone are responsible for the 20 percent of plastic waste that is present in the oceans.

Chairman Sopte added, “On achieving this, we will rope in the tourism stakeholders and other partners in the hospitality sector to be part of the large campaign against the use of plastic bottles and plastic items.”

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation residences are going to be free of plastic bottles, cups, and straws within 3 months.
