Heartless Father Stole 130,000 Pounds From Son’s Medical Fund And Spent It On Drugs, Liquor, And Prostitutes

An unemployed heartless father from Salvador, Brazil, stole more than £130k from his son’s medical fund and spent it on liquor, drugs, and prostitutes.

Mateus Alves, the accused, is believed to have stolen more than 130 thousand pounds from the 216 thousand pounds that were raised by the family and friends of Joao Miguel, his 19-month-old son, who is diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Joao, the ill son, has an AME, which is a rare degenerative neuromuscular disease, and his medicine alone costs up to £81,000 per dose.

Little Joao needs to have 6 doses of Spinraza (also known as Nusinersen), which is the first drug that is approved to treat AME.

Each dose of Spinraza also known as Nusinersen, which costs around 81 thousand pounds, and little Joao needs six of them.

Also, Spinraza is not available in Brazil.

Alves was arrested by the police on July 22 from a 5-star beachfront hotel in Salvador, which is located in NE Brazil.

Officials believe that Alves was hiding in the hotel for more than one month.

Daniel Gomes, a Police Chief, said, “At the time of his arrest, Mateus claimed he had spent the money bingeing on women, drinks, and drugs. He also alleged that he was being blackmailed by drug dealers for the rest of the money. But we have no evidence so far to support this claim.”

It is also reported that Alves wanted to open a brothel in the city with the money that he stole from the medical funds of his sick son.

Chief Daniel added, “He planned to bring at least four women and put them up in rented apartments as call girls. In return, they would have to pass some of the money raised from their services to him.”

When the police entered the penthouse suite that Alves was staying at in the 5-star hotel, they recovered jewelry, watches, designer clothes, drugs, cash, expensive perfumes, expensive goods, and watches.

The local police released images of Alves throughout his expensive lifestyle throughout the run.

The money that was stolen by Alves came from crowdfunding campaigns that include donations, activities, appeals, and even auctions.

Karine, the wife of Alves, said that she was devastated when she realized that her husband stole the money and ran away.

She said, “As a mother, my conduct has always been guided by good faith and for the sole purpose of trying to save the life of my son João Miguel.”

Alves is currently facing charges that include fraudulently, scamming and deceiving people into donating money for his son’s campaign and using it for another purpose.

Alves is also facing charges for abandoning his wife and 2 children, which includes little Joao.
