Hindu Priest Wearing Religious Clothing Attacked Near Temple In Queens
Swami Ji Harish Chander Puri, a Hindu Priest, who lives in Queens, showed his bruises and abrasions to the media after being attacked by a man near a Hindu Temple in the city.
During an interview with Pix11, Swami Ji said, “I’m in a little pain.”
On Thursday morning, Swami Harish was walking near the Shiv Shakti Peeth in Glen Oaks, Queens, when the attack happened.
Swami Ji said that he was wearing a religious attire during his walk, and was attacked by a man from behind.
Swami Ji said that the man hit him repeatedly.
The Hindu Priest had to be rushed to a hospital in Queens after the attack.
The police have arrested Sergio Gouveia, the 52-year-old man who attacked the Hindu Priest.
Sergio is currently facing charges such as harassment, criminal possession of a weapon, and assault.
Officials said that Sergio shouted “this is my neighborhood” during the attack.
The attack at the Hindu Priest comes after President Trump tweeted about Ilhan Omar, a congresswoman from Minnesota.

The police are currently trying to find out if Sergio committed a hate crime.
