Johnson & Johnson Recalls Johnson Baby Powder After Discovery Of Cancer Causing Asbestos

Johnson & Johnson, a pharmaceutical company, announced that they have recalled Johnson Baby Powder in the United States after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered that the product has asbestos, a type of chemical that causes cancer.

The company said the recall is only happening in the United States of America.

The sub-trace of Asbestos was only found in a single bottle.

Asbestos is dangerous for humans, and it has been proven that it can cause mesothelioma, a type of cancer.

According to reports, thousands of claimants have claimed that the Johnson Baby Powder has caused them to get the disease.

Mesothelioma affects the lining of the chest.

The FDA did tests last month, and Johnson & Johnson released a statement that mentioned their products do not have asbestos.

The stock price of J&J fell by 2.5 percent on Friday after the announcement was made.

Asbestos can naturally form alongside talc, which is a type of mineral that is mostly used in Baby powder.

The pharmaceutical giant has claimed that their powders do not contain asbestos, but if we look at reports from 1971 to the early 2000s, their Baby Powder has tested positive for tiny amounts of asbestos.

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the link between asbestos and mesothelioma is strong enough that it can cause cancer.

Earlier this week, a study that was published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, stated that talcum powder that contains asbestos causes cancer.

In a test that was done by the FDA, it stated that the J&J powder had 0.000002 percent of asbestos. This discovery is considered as a sub-trace.

As a defense, Johnson & Johnson said the report can be a false-positive result.

The pharmaceutical giant said it can be a bottle problem or could have been a contaminated or counterfeit product.

A spokesperson for Johnson & Johnson confirmed that the company has a very extreme testing standard that makes sure that its products are safe.

The spokesperson also said that the FDA did tests last month on their products, and they did not find any asbestos.
