Md Shahbaz, a 17-year-old teenager from Kolkata, passed away after he drowned during his swimming lessons at the College Square Pool in northern Kolkata on August 4, 2019.

Officials are currently considering this case as an unnatural death case.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation announced that the swimming pool will be closed until investigations are being carried out for the death of 17-year-old Shahbaz.

Debasish Kumar, the KMC Mayor-in-Council, said, “We are examining how the incident happened. The pool will remain closed until the investigation is over.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that Shahbaz drowned to death after he managed to sneak into the large pool, which is for trained swimmers.

The dead body of Shahbaz was fished out of the pool by the divers of the  DMG (Disaster Management Group) of the Kolkata Police.
