Man Breaks Into Closed Restaurant During Coronavirus Lockdown And Spends 4 Days Eating Their Food And Drinking Their Booze

A man from Connecticut was arrested by the police for breaking into a closed restaurant during the coronavirus lockdown.

According to reports, 42-year-old Louis Angel Ortiz was arrested by the police on the morning of Tuesday for breaking into a shuttered restaurant.

He reportedly stayed inside the restaurant for 4 days.

The incident happened at a Cuban restaurant in downtown New Haven, which police believe he busted into Saturday through a side window.

Ortiz ate, drink, and stole several thousand dollars’ worths of food and drinks, said the New Haven Police.

It is said that he drank nearly 70 bottles of liquor.

In a statement that was released by the New Haven Police, they said:

“Officers learned Ortiz helped himself over the course of four days to the restaurant’s food, liquor and beer. In addition to eating and drinking at the restaurant, Ortiz removed beverages and property from the building.”

Ortiz was taken into custody after a manager stopped to check out the closed restaurant.

The manager saw a man sleeping inside with a bottle of rum, said the police.

Soul De Cuba Café, which serves up homestyle Cuban grub, was the restaurant that Ortiz robbed.

Officers later arrested Ortiz.

The police added:

“Management estimated the loss of food and beverage at several thousand dollars. The loss includes an estimated 70 bottles of stolen or consumed liquor.”

Ortiz was arrested with the charges of larceny, burglary, and criminal mischief in connection with an alleged incident.

Ortiz, who was arraigned Wednesday, is due back in court on May 27, the Courant reports.

He is currently at the New Haven Correctional Center in lieu of $10,500 bail.
