Earlier today, the NCW (National Commission for Women) said that the Bathinda Gangrape Case was not handled properly by the Bathinda Police and added that they did not file an FIR immediately due to “political pressure”.

Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is also a member of parliament from Bathinda, said that the gangrape survivor did not get justice due to the inconvenience of the Bathinda Police and due to the Congress leaders in the state.

The Minister brought the matter up to the National Commission for Women, the NCW then formed a that was led by  Shyamala S Kundar, who is a member of the National Commission for Women, to investigate the said matter.

Shyamala S Kundar went to Bathinda and met with the mother of the gangrape survivor, the survivor, the district collector of Bathinda, the SSP of Bathinda, and some officials of the District Legal Service Authority in Bathinda.

The team concluded that the situation was handled by the police in an “inefficient manner” and placed a delay in filing an FIR.

Shyamala S Kundar also discovered that the gangrape survivor did not get proper medical assistance and compensation from the local government.

A statement was released by the NCW, and according to the observation of the team that was led by Shyamala S Kundar, “The situation was handled in an inefficient manner by the Police Authorities and there had been a delay in filing an FIR and carrying out an investigation.”

“During the interaction of the NCW team with the police authorities and other officials, it has been observed that the victim was not provided with proper medical facilities and compensation. The victim has reiterated about the delay in investigation by the police due to the political pressure. The father of the victim was involved in the crime and through the intervention of NCW, the father of the victim and one of the main accused of the crime were arrested today.”

“On the recommendation of the NCW team, the investigation is being supervised by the senior police officials.
