CBS, a Dutch National statistics agency said almost 400 people died in the Netherlands during the record-breaking heatwave recently in just a single week.

According to CBS, 2964 people died in the Netherlands during the week that started on July 22, 2019.

The numbers were 15 percent more than an average week during the summer.

The temperatures records tumbled across Europe during the heatwave that hit the continent in July.

For the 1^st time in history, the temperatures topped 40 degrees Celsius in the Netherlands on July 25, 2019.

Experts said the death toll in the Netherlands during that week that started on July 22, 2019, is comparable to two heatwaves that occurred in 2006.

The heatwaves in 2006 are considered as the longest in the country.

Most numbers of deaths happened in the eastern part of the country where temps were higher and where heatwave lasted longer than other parts of the Netherlands.

The heatwave was the 2nd to hit the continent in just a single month, and experts say heatwaves similar to these can become more common as the planet is warming up more due to greenhouse gas emissions.
