New Delhi at 46.8 degrees today, hottest temperature recorded since May 2013

The Palam Observatory registered 46.8 degrees Celsius in New Delhi today, this is the hottest temperature that has been recorded since May 2013.

The Palam Observatory recorded 47.2 degrees Celsius 6 years ago.

Mahesh Palawat, a representative of the Skymet Weather, a private agency that forecasts the weather, tweeted, “Delhi heats up. Palam in Delhi recorded 46.8 degrees. The highest temperature in the month of May since 2013. The all-time high is 48.4 degree recorded on May 26 in 1998.”

India’s Meteorological Department explained why the temperature in Palam is hotter than the others.

Kuldeep Srivastav, the chief weather forecaster of India’s Meteorological Department, said, “The temperature in the Palam area is always one or two notches more than that at the rest of the places because it’s open. Emissions due to high aviation activity also add to the heat.”

Another Observatory, the Safdarjung, recorded 44.7 degrees Celsius, which is the highest temperature recorded in this year.

The Ridge and the Ayanagar Observatories recorded 46.4 and 46 degrees Celsius.

Officials added that the heat will continue to stay like this for the next 3 to 4 days.

2 thirds of the country are currently facing severe heat wave conditions, especially Maharashtra and Telangana, the two states have recorded 46 Degrees Celsius.
