After the incident of Fatehveer Singh, a 2-year-old boy who passed away inside a borewell after being stuck there for 110 hours, the Punjab Government announced that they will be giving our Rs. 5000 to the people who will point out and inform them about abandoned borewells in the state.

Fatehveer Singh fell inside a 125-foot borewell and he was stuck there for over 100 hours. His autopsy report suggests that the 2-year-old boy passed away 2 days before his body was pulled out by the rescuers.

The autopsy report of Fatehveer Singh concluded that the cause of his death was due to Hypoxia, which is a deficiency in the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues.

All the Deputy Commissioners in the Tandrust Punjab Mission have been instructed that all abandoned borewells in the state should be closed or should be filled up so incidents like these could be avoided.

The Punjab government added that landowners who do not cover or fill their abandoned borewells in one month could face legal charges against them and could be charged under relevant sections of the IPC.

The Tandrust Punjab Mission will also carry out marketing campaigns that will educate and inform people about the dangers of keeping an abandoned borewell open.

So far, 45 borewells in Punjab have been filled out, this comes after the instructions of CM Amarinder Singh.

26 of the 45 borewells were located in Fatehgarh Sahib and 13 were found in Khera and Bassi Pathana.

8 were closed in Mansa, 3 in Patiala and Kapurthala, 2 in Gurdaspur, 1 in Ropar and Hoshiarpur.
