Tamil Nadu turns down Kerala’s offer of supplying 20 lakh liters of clean drinking water to the state

Chennai is currently having problems in supplying clean drinking water to its local residents, and as a neighboring state, Kerala offered to supply 20 lakh liters of drinking water to Tamil Nadu.

But according to the office of Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, the neighboring state has declined to accept their offer.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, “In response to our offer, we have been informed that at present Tamil Nadu have sufficient supply and doesn’t require additional assistance from Kerala.”

The neighboring state is currently facing a water crisis after their 4 reservoirs, which serve as their main source of drinking water, became dry.

MK Stalin of the Tamil Nadu Government also released a statement for the offer, Mr. Stalin said, “I wholeheartedly thank Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan for his timely offer to provide water to Tamil Nadu. Urge the government of Tamil Nadu to work with the government of Kerala to help citizens of our state tide over this unprecedented water crisis.”

Chennai has cut down their water supply by 40 percent.

The water cut has affected businesses in the state such as hotels, restaurants, firms, and many more.

The Chembarambakkam Lake has also dried up, the lake is the largest source of drinking water.

Chennai needs 800 million liters of water per day, but the CMW (Chennai Metro Water) only releases 525 million liters of water every day.
