Teen Manages To Reel In A 700 Pound Tuna After 10 Hour Long Battle
An 18-year-old teenager from Hamilton, Massachusetts, managed to catch a 700-pound tuna after fighting to catch it for 10 long hours.
Devin Zelck, the 18-year-old teen, said she hooked the behemoth Bluefin on Friday and was stunned when she saw how big the fish actually was.
During an interview with Boston 25, the teen explained how she felt.
Devin said, “I was shocked! It was huge. We saw it come up onto the surface and we were like, ‘Oh my goodness’.”
She added, “My dad caught his first tuna at 13, so it’s kind of been a competition between me and my brother.”
Devin is the daughter of Steve Zelck, a commercial fisherman, and said that she and her brother had been waiting for this day.
Devin told Boston 25 how hard it was to catch the gigantic tuna.
She said, “Every 45 minutes we were switching off. Dad would cramp up, and he would tell me that I had to be on the rod next. It was just so exciting. Like you have to be there, like you have to catch it yourself to know how exciting it is.”
Steve said she is proud of her daughter and said that her daughter was “just instrumental in the whole fight.”
The Bluefin tuna can sell for 6 dollars or 12 dollars per pound.
