5 people were injured after a cruise ship crashed into a tourist boat in Venice. After the incident, the mayor of Venice said that all cruise shops must change their routes.

The accident happened on Sunday, June 2 after the 13-deck MSC Opera had an engine failure, in the video you can hear people shouting and running away from the dock as the huge cruise ship was coming towards them.

You can also hear the loud horn of the ship going off as it was struggling to slow down.

MSC Cruises, the company owner of the cruise ship, said that the ship was trying to dock safely at the passenger terminal when the vehicle faced an engine failure.

A towboat association in Venice said that “The two towboats tried to stop the giant and then a tow cable broke, cut by the collision with the river boat.”

Luckily no one attained life-threatening injuries, but according to reports, 5 people were left with bruises.

4 of the 5 injured were aboard the small baot.

Ida Ossi, a local resident, said, “Some scared passengers dived into the water, while others fled the boat.”

Elisabetta Pasqualin, a local resident, was watering her plants on her terrace when she heard the loud warning sirens, she said, ‘There was this huge ship in a diagonal position in the Giudecca Canal, with a tugboat near which seemed like it couldn’t do anything.’

Elisabetta said that the ship was advancing slowly towards the dock.

She then added, ‘The bow of the ship crashed hard into the bank with its massive weight crushing a big piece of it. Sirens were wailing loudly; it was a very dramatic scene.’
