Worried About COVID: Police Officer In Tears After Man She Was Detaining Spits In Her Eye

41-year-old Temisan Oritsejafor was being detained by Police Constable Annie Napier on April 18, 2020, when he decided to spit in her eye, leaving the police officer in ears and worried about getting infected with the deadly virus.

According to the police, the man looked up when he was pinned down and spat in the eye of the police officer while he was being handcuffed.

Oritsejafor had been bleeding, so when he spit, there was both spit and blood in the face of Police Constable Napier.

The incident happened when the police were called to the flat of the 41-year-old man after he became abusive towards Alison Osborne, his neighbor.

The incident happened in Wyken, Coventry.

It is believed that the man was on bail for assaulting a police officer when the incident happened.

On Tuesday, the 41-year-old man admitted the crime.

During his appearance at the Warwick Crown Court, Judge Andrew Lockhart QC said:

He is charged with two assaults on emergency workers, one of them while on bail. He must understand the sentence will be one of significant custody. I will be minded to pass deterrent sentences, and the sentence for the second   matter is likely to be consecutive.

Talking to the judge, Oritsejafor said:

I didn’t mean to spit in her face.

Judge Lockhart did tell him that it is very likely that he will be facing a significant custodial sentence for these matters.

Mark Phillips, a prosecutor, said:

A male officer who believed he was being aggressive took him to the floor, and was assisted by a female colleague, PC Napier, to restrain him. As they’re getting him up, he spits into the officer’s face. That is spit and blood, because he had had a bleeding nose earlier, and it catches her straight in the eye.

Oritsejafor was remanded in custody and will be sentenced by the judge later this year.

Let’s all hope that the constable stays okay.
