South African Lions Take Advantage Of Coronavirus Lockdown To Enjoy Sleeping In Middle Of Empty Road

The coronavirus is a game-changer for humans, but for animals, it is something that is allowing them to roam freely.

Richard Sowry, a park ranger in the Kruger National Park, which is located in South Africa, saw a pride of lions chilling on a warm road.

The best part about this is that Sowry approached the lions and they showed no interest.

While sharing the images, he said:

“This lion pride are usually resident on Kempiana Contractual Park, an area Kruger tourists do not see. This afternoon they were lying on the tar road just outside of Orpen Rest Camp.”

For those that are wondering, the roads of the Kruger National Park are usually busy with tourists that are driven to see the park’s wide range of wild animals.

However, South Africa is under lockdown right now, which means no safaris are running.

Isaac Phaahla, the spokesman of the park, said:

“Lying on the road during the daytime is unusual because under normal circumstances there would be traffic and that pushes them into the bush.”

Isaac said that the behavior of the lions in the park have changed very fast since the lockdown was implemented.

He explained:

“They just occupy places that they would normally shun when there are tourists. People should remember that KNP is still a largely wild area and in the absence of humans, wildlife is more active.”

It is good to see nature taking over on what really belongs to it.
