Jammu’s National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah Wants ‘LoC’ Be Converted To “Line Of Peace”
Jammu: With recent spurt in violence in the valley, there have been some voices against the army. Echoing in the same mood, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday sought for the Line of Control (LoC) be converted into a ‘Line of Peace and Goodwill’ along with India and Pakistan initiating a dialogue process without leaving out the active participation of Jammu and Kashmir people to enable ushering harmony and tranquility in the state.
He once again cautioned the Central Government not to take the general public legitimate aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir “for granted and ignoring them”. He also claims that the notes ban had curbed stone pelting had fallen flat and also was concerned about the “youth were now taking to guns”.
Along with that, he also suggested India and Pakistan resuming the dialogue process and to engage the general public of Jammu and Kashmir to bring an acceptable solution to a fruitful stage. He said these comments while addressing party workers at Balakote in Poonch district.
He cited the example of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, when he took a crucial decision during the Indo-Pak hostilities in 1990s after the Kargil incursion by inviting Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and the wisdom of his worked in terms of a cease-fire agreement which was the reason that brought cheer to the lives of the border people.
“Why can’t Vajpayee’s spirit be emulated by his political inheritors,” he said, while warning that extreme steps could lead to devastation and destruction in the entire region.
He also reiterated the party’s demand for granting greater control to the state, by saying that internal autonomy within the framework of Indian Constitution and conversion of Line of Control (LoC) into Line of Peace was the only pragmatic way forward.
“The people of the state decided their future in 1947 by acceding to Mahatma Gandhi’s secular India and they will fight all machinations of reversing these well-established credentials by polarising forces. India is not religion specific but a country of all, irrespective of religion, region and caste. This legacy cannot be trampled on by fringe elements, currently holding the centre-stage in Indian politics, as majority of Hindus disapprove politics of polarisation and division,” he said.
Criticizing the BJP party without taking its name, he said that the current spell of governance in New Delhi had created chaos all over, with people holding the feeling of their identities threatened and thus taking to streets.
Mr Abdullah also expressed severe concern over the “dicey political situation” saying he would keep his fingers crossed about things to happen in case the present arrangement is repeated in New Delhi in 2019.
During his speech, Mr Abdullah also cautioned general public against the divisive politics by saying that attempts were being made to create wedge in the society on the basis of region and religion. All the happenings are being done with a sinister motive to break Jammu and Kashmir into three different regions and also warned those nurturing such types of dreams.
National Conference would help fight these designs tooth and nail, he said.
