#PotholeMix: After Marathi Parody Song ‘Sonu, Tula Mumbai Var Bharosa Nai Ka?’ Went Viral! RJ Malishka Reacts to BMC’s Response on Pothole Controversy!

Monsoons turned out be very strong and violent this time for Mumbaikars. Following heavy rains, it has now given rise to a hazardous civic menace — potholes. People in the city are having a tough time stepping out thanks to the heavy rains and the badly constructed roads, not to forget the potholes.

While Internet users were trying their best to bring this to the notice of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), it was RJ Malishka Mendosa’s satirical video addressing the municipal body that sent a ripple across social media.

It was a parody song of a popular Marathi folk song by RJ Malishka at 93.5 Red FM exposing the bad state of roads in Mumbai went viral recently kickstarting a controversy. The video talked about the potholes on Mumbai roads during the rains and how the municipal corporation did not do the needful.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, watch Mendosa’s ‘Sonu Tuza Mazyavar Bharosa Nai Kai – Pothole Mix’, here.

The original folk song “Sonu Tula Mazavar Bharosa Nay Kay” (Sonu, don’ you trust you) was parodied into “Sonu, Tula Mumbai Var Bharosa Nai Ka?” (Sonu, you have no faith in Mumbai?) grabbing eyeballs on social media.

Soon after, a funny or satirical take seemed to generate more attention. It seems Twitter users have now taken a leaf out of their books and are taking to social media to push BMC to do something about the dangerous condition of roads.

However, this did not go well with the Mumbai leaders and a Shiv Sena youth leader urged the BMC to sue Menoda for defaming the civic body. The BMC then asked the RJ to pay Rs500-crore as fine and even slapped a notice on her for a mosquito-breeding spot found at her home in Bandra.

Irked with the criticism, the BMC even made their own version of song slamming the RJ. Malishka and the FM channel, check out the video below…

This incident led to outrage on social media, with people coming out in support of the RJ. Malishka hit back saying she has six more songs ready.

While the controversy continues to be in news, Malishka has finally responded to the controversy about the issue. In the video, she says that the radio has been talking about the issues Mumbai faces in the monsoon for a long time but this video went viral.

Malishka asserts that radio is the voice of common people. Regarding the reasons for her #PotholeMix going viral, she says that the song touched people in a way that nothing had done before. She also thanks her supporters for raising their voices.

In the video, she says that the radio station has talked about various issues and spearheaded caused like ‘Bajao for a Cause’ which raises funds for the children of commercial sex workers, Char Bottle Rozka, and various other initiatives. She also talks about an activity ‘Pothole Utsav’ wherein they talk to corporators and BMC officials about the condition of roads in Mumbai and appreciate them when the work is done.

Thanking Mumbaikars and social media users for making the video a huge hit, she says,

Perhaps because this song resonated with you or touched you in a way that nothing had before. This song went viral and a lot of other things happened along with it. I was all the way in New York when all of this happened. There was also a counter song made and people even reached the doors of my house. I want to ask you even now, is that fair?

Talking about the video she further says, “We hope next time something like this is done, the authorities take it in the right spirit.
