What Harmanpreet Told Deepti Sharma During Her 100th Run Will Change The Way You Look At The Match
Going to the basic things, a victory for Team India against Australia in the semi-finals is what everyone wished for. But, it seems another flavor of amusement is added to the match, and that is nothing but Indian middle-order batsman Harmanpreet Kaur’s astonishing century that was a just-missed double century.
TeamIndia was starving at 101-3 when Harmanpreet Kaur came to strike and her back-to-back deliveries bagged an another 171 runs in 115 balls (20X4, 7X6) adding an amazing amount of runs to the team circling at 281-4 altogether.
Despite all the positive vibes that stormed the viewers, it was during Kaur’s 100th run that showcased the mere drift she had with her partner Deepti Sharma.

Post the match, she detailed the argument she had with the player. She said:
“I just told her (Deepti) to rotate the strike, you don’t have to take the pressure. I was hitting the ball well and I told her to give me the strike and I will take the responsibility and she did a great job.”
Harmanpreet’s unbeaten 171 bailed out the team that was tottering at 35/2 after losing both the openers, Smriti Mandhana at 6 and Punam Raut at 4, inside the first 10 overs. With India in a spot of bother, Harmanpreet mauled the Australian bowlers with her brutal force and powered India to 281 for 4 in the rain-hit semi-final.

That moment after the 42 overs was just unforgettable, as she walks off to the pavilion, she received a glorious standing ovation. The entire ground rose as one to applaud what has been the knock of a lifetime. You cannot ask for more, can you? She ends up as the fifth highest run-scorer in the list of all-time highest scorers in ODI cricket. She hasn’t been in the best of nicks, but today when skipper Mithali got out at a crucial time, Harmanpreet took the mantle and unfurled every possible cricketing shot off the textbook.
“I didn’t get a chance to bat in the whole tournament, today when I got the chance I just wanted to utilize this opportunity because today was the day where I wanted to prove myself and thanks to God, whatever I was thinking. Mithali and Deepti scored really well and Veda scored really well,” she added complementing her partners.
She later went talking about idol Virender Sehwag and said: “Today’s plan was just to watch the ball, hit it hard and this is what I was doing. Some areas they were bowling well but I just wanted to hit and rotate the strike.”
