Hyderabad Will host Historic India-Bangladesh Test Match

News, Sports: India will play a historic one-off Test match against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad from February 8th-12th next year (2017), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday (August 3).

This will be the first time for Bangladesh to play on Indian soil in the longest format of the sport, after 17 years since gaining their Test status in 2000.

India will play Bangladesh in a one-off Test between February 8 and 12, 2017, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur called the upcoming match a historic occasion and a “great addition” to India’s home season.

“As a leading Test-playing nation it is BCCI’s responsibility to give an opportunity to every Test-playing nation,” he said in a statement.

India is currently second in the International Cricket Council Test rankings while Bangladesh is ninth.

Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hassan said the match would be a memorable experience for players and fans of both countries.

“For the cricketers who will be representing Bangladesh and India, this will be a much-anticipated game and given the competitive nature of their limited overs matches in the recent past,” said Nazmul Hassan, Bangladesh Cricket Board president.

Meanwhile, he added in the same statement “The long wait for us to play a Test match on Indian soil is finally over and this is a time for celebration.”

India have a crowded 2016-17 home season with the hosts set to play as many as 13 Tests against top sides including Australia and England.
