Do You Know The Reason Behind The Peculiar Design Of The Hole In The Middle Of A Blade? Here’s Why!
Have you ever wondered about the peculiar design of the hole in the middle of a blade? Was it simply an artistic design or was there some rational reason?
If you remember old shaving razors, the razor assembly has three separate parts, which looks like…
The razor had a cap with a threaded stem and two studs that aligned with the three holes in the blade. This hole in the centre of blade used to mount and fix it with a razor and the other two holes on both sides are for positioning it.
Another possible explanation, given for this design is:
The blade material is made just around 0.2mm thick made up of chrome steel. To maintain sharp edges for a long time, it is heat treated by quenching or tempering and this heat treatment makes material hard and brittle. Hence, such material tends to break when deformed even slightly. So the peculiar design is provided at centre and edges to accommodate flexibility without breaking. It gives stability with flexibility, and certain shapes may be used as locators for placing blades.
